  • In the Urdu language, ‘Bas’ means aroma and ‘Mati’ means ‘full of’. Hence, it means the “prince of fragrance” or “the perfumed one.”
  • Basmati is one of the most revered form of rice, characterized by sweet aroma and long grains
  • Kohinoor introduced the first packed consumer packs of 1kg in the country
  • Only one crop of Basmati rice can be grown per year
  • Basmati is only grown in the northern Pakistani regions of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Rinse the rice thrice with regular water to get rid of excessive starch. Soak the rice in twice the amount of water for 15 minutes

Open Pot Method
  • Bring a pot of water (2 ½ times the amount of rice) to a boil. Add a pinch of salt and 1tbsp of oil and stir.
  • Add the soaked rice and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the flame.
  • Cover the pot with a lid and cook for 15 minutes.
  • Fork the rice and serve hot.
Microwave Method
  • Add water (2 ½ times the amount of rice) to a micro safe bowl and add the soaked rice.
  • Add a pinch of salt and one tbsp of oil and stir.
  • Cook it at 90W for fifteen minutes.
  • Fork the rice and serve hot.

Note: The above is based on a 650W microwave. The timings might differ from oven to oven. For best results, always soak rice in cold water for 30 minutes before cooking.
